ProtoEdge offers, cast metal prototypes for die casting and investment casting, in prototype pilot quantities and production market quantities.
Die Casting Parts
Die casting is very useful for high ductility, impact strength and is a versatile process for producing engineered metal parts using high-pressure die casting techniques. Castings created in this process may vary greatly in size and weight ranging from a few ounces to 100 pounds. Typical utilization for die cast parts are housings — thin-walled enclosures, frequently requiring many ribs and bosses on the interior. Metal housings for a wide range of appliances and equipment are often die cast. Various automotive components are also manufactured using the die cast process, which includes cylinder heads, engine blocks, and pistons. Other noteworthy die cast parts include bushings, gears, propellers, pumps, and valves.

Die Cast Process
Die casting is a process in which molten metal is forced into steel molds under high pressure or poured. The molds widely known as tools or dies as well are created using steel and are particularly designed for each project. And incorporates, in each part or component created, accuracy and repeatability. There are two primary types of die casting machines, hot chamber machines for alloys with low melting temperatures for example zinc and cold chamber machines for alloys with high melting temperatures, specifically aluminum. Meanwhile, with both machines, after the molten metal is injected into the dies, it rapidly cools and solidifies into the final component or part referred to as the casting.

Investment Casting Parts
Precision investment casting metal, utilizes lost wax casting process and produces near-net-shape parts. These metal parts oftentimes require little to no additional machining. Surface finish is also, much better than what is achievable through most other processes. Furthermore, the strength and durability of prototype or production cast metal parts makes them ideal for high wear applications. We ship high quality investment casted parts that provide outstanding benefits that are significantly reliable.
Investment Cast Process
Pattern configuration, lost wax casting pattern is created by injecting molten wax into an alloy die. Single molds or tree — like accuracy investment casting molds can be created for a large-scale high-volume run. The metal casting outer shell is built up through dipping the tree — like construction into ceramic slurry and then immediately coated with sand several times drying between each coat building layers. Inner cavity of investment cast is then dewaxed using high pressure and steam to force the wax out of the cavities and leaves the hollow tree — like construction of ceramic shell. Ceramic cavity is heated and cured, to prevent heat shock or ceramic shell from cracking once the liquid metal is poured into the ceramic tree — like construction shell. After the cast metal has cooled enough to handle, ceramic shell is removed from the tree and its components or parts by using a high impulse vibratory shaking. The components or parts are secondary machined if necessary, depending on the expectations of the components or parts and customer requirements.
